CALI, COLOMBIA — The energy at the COP16 Biodiversity Summit was electric—and not just from the negotiations or climate urgency. In the spirit of inclusion and creativity, the Summit welcomed artists, indigenous leaders, scientists, and youth changemakers from across the globe.

Among them was musician and UN Youth Leader AY Young, who delivered a live performance powered entirely by renewable energy.

His set, part of the broader cultural programming designed to deepen connection and consciousness around environmental action, was a celebration of "Music for Impact"—an approach that uses art to support and inspire global sustainability efforts.

“Being part of COP16 and sharing a stage powered by clean energy was an honor,” AY said. “It’s incredible to see music and creativity woven into global conversations about biodiversity and the future of our planet.”

The Summit—hosted by Colombia and expected to be the most inclusive COP yet—brought together over 15,000 participants from 190+ countries. It emphasized cross-sector collaboration and uplifted voices from communities living in biodiversity hotspots. Officials hope this broader participation leads to concrete action on the promises made under the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework.

AY’s presence was just one of many examples of how arts, culture, and youth leadership are helping to shape the future of global environmental policy. His Battery Tour, a movement promoting sustainable development through clean energy concerts, aligns with the Summit’s call to "live in peace with nature."

A Moment for Collective Action

While governments debated frameworks and targets, artists like AY, along with many other grassroots and indigenous leaders, helped remind everyone why it all matters. Biodiversity loss isn't just a scientific crisis—it's a human one. And storytelling, music, and cultural expression can help drive the connection and courage needed for bold action.

🎶💡 Whether you’re a policymaker or a performer, an activist or an audience member, everyone has a role to play in protecting the planet’s future.
